Town upset high flyers

LYE TOWN 1, BROMYARD TOWN 2

BROMYARD caused a real upset in the West Midlands Premier Division with a terrific win at high flyers Lye.

The home team opened brightly but found Bromyard's defence, including stand-in keeper Paul Maynard, in defiant mood and against the run of play Maynard's long kick found new striker Michael Hollis, who smashed an unstoppable volley past Lye's goalkeeper to give the visitors the lead in the 22nd minute. Bromyard then settled to control the remainder of the first half.

Within seconds of the re-start a great move by Bromyard saw Aaron Drake's shot brilliantly saved which seemed to spur Lye into action who threw everything at the visitors. But dogged defending by Bromyard kept the scoreline the same until the 70th minute when determination by Hollis got him another fine goal to seal a welcome victory for Bromyard, although Lye pulled a goal back in the dying seconds of the game, direct from a corner.

New signing Aaron Hughes also did well on his debut for Bromyard.
