Students to commemorate school's namesake
YOUNGSTERS at the John Masefield High School will be making films to commemorate the life and works of the former poet laureate who gave the school its name.
The students have been set the special challenge of making short videos, each based on a single line from a poem by John Masefield, who was born in Ledbury.
The winners will be presented with special "John Masefield Oscars", made by the school's own design technology students.
School manager, Wendy Bradbeer said:"The competition is based at budding film makers. All the videos will be screened at a special in house presentation evening.
"Afterwards, I see no reason why they should not go on general release, - so perhaps we could put them on during the Ledbury Poetry Festival."
The judging categories are best animation, best documentary, best foreign language, best musical and best visual effects.
Finished videos, no more than 90 seconds long, must be submitted by the students no later than April 18.
