THIS charming granary conversion was once part of the farm buildings of the internationally famous Atok herd of Hereford cattle which were dispersed over 40 years ago. The herd, the offspring of which were exported all over the world, got the name from the initials of the four former houses of Christ College, Brecon. The gardens, which are a special feature of this house, were once the fields for the young bulls which were used as an exercise yard.
The Wain House was once the home for the carts for the horses and the top floors were used for storing grain. When building the impressive modern garden room recently, grains of corn were found in the wall cavities.
The garden of The Wain House is charming with a reflective pool by the garden room, a wildlife pond with plants at the end of the garden and a large patio area which is boarded by a flower bed filled with shrubs and plants. The charming drawing room has patio doors leading out to this paved area where breath-taking sunsets can be viewed and Pen-y-fan in the distance.
The stone buildings were beautifully converted by a local architect Martin Golder about 15 years ago into a small complex of six large character houses, with stone walls all around giving privacy and beauty to this traditional foldyard.
This four/five bedroomed property is a short half mile walk from the Hay Festival site and a further half a mile from the town with all its facilities.
