THIS is one show that I had eagerly been looking forward to with anticipation and excitement of a child and boy it was definitely worth the wait!
The irrepressible Phineas T Barnum 'The Greatest Showman On Earth' is fabulous. Barnum played by Brian Conley is a natural he was born for the role - a dazzling smile, charisma in abundance he effortlessly encouraged audiences to part with their money to see a 160 year old woman.
Cameron Mackintosh certainly knows how to raise the bar even before the curtain went up there where members of the ensemble in the aisles and the rows of seats juggling and performing acrobatic stunts - magic.
It will come as no surprise that the production relies on the brilliant cast who perform some amazing acrobatic and aerial feats which at times leave you with your heart in your mouth as you cross your fingers that nothing goes wrong.
The ambiance and setting of the Hippodrome is perfect for this show enhanced by razor sharp choreography, slick set changes and a cast totally committed to giving the audience an evening to remember.
There is a love story which involves Barnum, his wife Chairy (Linzi Hateley) who is an Olivier Award nominee and star of the West End and his interest in Jenny Lind (Kimberly Blake).
The highlight at the end of act one is the infamous tightrope walk which Conley pulls off superbly as the tension and gasps in the audience build as he makes his way across to Miss Lind.
A sparkling, spectacular production which had everyone on their feet to give a thoroughly deserved standing ovation.
