IT is possible to learn and perform Verdi’s Requiem in a single day? Can it be done?
The answer will be a found at a choral workshop in Worcester, next month, and experts will be at hand to make it all happen.
A spokesman said: “Amateur singers of all kinds will have the chance to try out their vocal chords on popular choral blockbuster, Verdi’s Requiem, at an exhilarating ‘Come and Sing’ one-day workshop.
“The workshop, hosted by Worcester Festival Choral Society, will cover all the Requiem’s main choruses including the dramatic Dies Irae (Day of Wrath). The day will be led by international conductor Piers Maxim, a former chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral and chorus master for the Belgian National Opera, who is now Director of Music at Great Malvern Priory.”
The spokesman added: “Taking place in The King’s School’s historic College Hall, behind Worcester Cathedral, the workshop doors open from 9:30am for a 10.15am start on April 7.
“Singers will follow a vocal score provided on the day, to either learn or brush up on this much-loved choral work. The afternoon concludes by 5pm, after an informal performance that participants’ friends and family can attend.”
