Director and Choreographer Sir Matthew Bourne has the midas touch using Prokofiev's brilliant score whilst adapting the Cinderella story into a stunning spectacle the action takes place in London during the London Blitz in 1940.
In the programme notes Bourne says '...it beautifully captures the realism of our 'darkest hour' along with the escapism and glamour of hollywood'.
Every member of the award winning New Adventures Company are superb making every move look effortless, on the opening night Ashley Shaw (Cinderella), Dominic North (Harry the Pilot), Liam Mower (The Angel) and Sybil, The Stepmother were all exquisite.
The production has three acts, there is inspired use of the Pathe Newsreel, the set and costume design by Lez Brotherston is out of this world. This is the second time I have seen this show I am still blown away by The Cafe de Paris and The London Underground.
Romance, separation, love, carnage, bombs it is a stark reminder of World War Two.
The production is daring, its different, its dazzling - do not miss a very special night out.
Runs until Saturday, 24th March at the Bristol Hippodrome.
