YOUNG people are invited to apply for free tickets to inspirational concerts taking place during the Autumn in Malvern Festival.

Malvern Hills District Council is working closely with the organisers and in a new initiative Malvern schools have been given the opportunity to claim tickets to the classical music concerts taking place during the festival.

Tickets for some events have already been snapped up, by Somers Park Primary School and Malvern St James, but there are still tickets for two special events: John Scott Whiteley(organ) and Miriam Kramer(violin) at Malvern Priory on Saturday, October 18, and the Aldwyn Voices at Malvern Priory on Saturday, October 25.

Arts development officer at MHDC Manda Graham said: ”We hope that by attending these magnificent concerts young musicians will be inspired by the high quality of the musicc and be encouraged to think of music as a potential career opportunity.

“We are passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their dreams and ambitions. These concerts could really have an impact on the individuals who go to watch them.”

Young people interested in claiming these tickets should contact MHDC on 01684 862312 as soon as possible.

The 2008 Autumn in Malvern Festival will bring leading names in music, literature and visual arts to the town.

The St Petersburg Quartet is widely-recognised as one of the top four quartets in the world, while the European Union Chamber Orchestra brings together the most promising stars from all over Europe.

Poet Laureate Andrew Motion will be taking part, talking about the importance of poetry.
