Russian singers to take traditions to village
12:00pm Monday 9th April 2012 in Latest By Neil Watts
A GROUP of Russian singers will bring a mix of traditional song, dance and classical pieces to a village near Malvern later this month.
Lyra, a vocal ensemble group from St Petersburg, perform at St Mary’s Church, in Longdon, on Thursday, April 26 from 7.30pm.
They are all students or postgraduates of the St Petersburg Conservatoire and promise to open the concert with traditional Russian orthodox works by composers such as Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninov.
The second half of the concert should see the group take on a lighter selection of Russian folk songs and dances before drawing the event to a close with the famous Kalinka while wearing their national costume.
They come with good pedigree, having received the Montreaux International Choral Festival diploma in 2001 and winning the Coleraine International Choral Festival in Northern Ireland in 2005.
Tickets are priced £10 to include a glass of wine and nibbles but there is no charge for under-18s.
