THE first, and one of the greatest, works from the Baroque period is brought to life by the Armonico Consort at Malvern Theatres. Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 is a collection of melodies, solos and multiple choir pieces and, 400 years on, its popularity has never been so strong.
It is notoriously difficult to sing, and complicated to put together, but performing on original instruments, Armonico Consort brings its unique style to this masterpiece.
Armonico Consort returns to Malvern having delighted full houses for its performances of Handel's Messiah, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Carols at Christmas.
It also recently returned to Worcester Three Choirs Festival with its brand-new production, a coupling of Purcell's Dido and Aeneas with Lully's Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme.
Christopher Monks, artistic director, said: “Over the last few years we have been developing strong links with both the Worcester Three Choirs Festival and Malvern Theatres. The people of this area are hungry to hear good music performed well, and it is rare to see an empty seat in the venue. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to return.”
The performance takes place on Friday, September 5, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £16-20. For more information call 01684 892277 or log onto www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
