FESTIVAL goers should expect the unexpected and prepare to be surprised.

Acoustic Triangle, performing at Worcester Cathedral tomorrow (Thursday) as part of the Three Choirs Festival, is a unique trio combining classical, jazz and world music.

The band, founded and fronted by the renowned double bassist Malcolm Creese, will be joined by six string musicians for the show In Three Dimensions.

“People should expect surprise,” said Mr Creese, who last performed in Worcester as a schoolboy chorister.

“This music will be unfamiliar. I don’t want to put people off; it will be beautiful and melodic, but it will be different.

“With most concerts the music comes from straight ahead, the performers stand on stage. It’s one dimensional. What we are trying to do is change that.

“Music will be coming from all around you. We’re using the whole space; hence the music being in three dimensions.”

The site-specific performance will feature pieces written specifically for large spaces, including compositions by bandleader Tim Garland.

“Every member of the audience will experience something different,” said Mr Creese.

“One person might have a saxophone near them and French horn in the distance.

“For the person sat near the horn, it will be quite different.”

The nine musicians will have plenty of nooks, pillars and corners to hide behind, which will help them present something unforgettable.

“The music is very special,” said Mr Creese.

“It can be extremely powerful and rousing, and sometimes almost ghostly."
