THE successful collaboration between the English Symphony Orchestra (ESO) and Malvern St James school continues on Saturday, March 7, with two concerts in one day.
At 1pm in the school's York Hall, a children’s Side by Side concert takes place, featuring young players from the ESO’s Beginners and Intermediate orchestras performing alongside the ESO musicians who tutored them during the courses and also some pupils from the school. Steve Moss will conduct the concert, which will last for about half an hour.
Then, at 7.30pm, in the same venue, the ESO Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Laura Jellicoe and with Steve Moss on clarinet, will perform Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances, Finzi's Clarinet Concerto and Mozart's Serenade K185.
“We are delighted to be back in the warm and welcoming surroundings of Malvern St James with the opportunity this time to perform twice in one day,” said the ESO’s Peter Sheeran. “The youth orchestra weekends were an absolute joy for both the students and the professionals, and this concert promises to be a very moving occasion.
Admission for both concerts is by ticket only from the ESO box office on 01386 791044. There will be no charge for the Side by Side concert but a retiring collection will be held for the Beginners and Intermediate Orchestras. The evening concert tickets are £20, £15 and £10, with concession for parents and children from the Side by Side concert.
