THE Armonico Consort returns to Malvern with what is perhaps the world’s funniest opera, The Barber of Seville. This new production which will be staged at Malvern Theatres on March 27 and 28, is directed by the internationally acclaimed Bill Bankes-Jones.
The Barber of Seville is the prequel to the Marriage of Figaro, which the Armonico Consort performed at Malvern Theatres last year.
The opera tells the story of Rosina, a girl with a romantic dilemma. Should she marry the scheming older man who seems to be in love with her money rather than her? Or should she succumb to the charms of a dashing young suitor, who tempts her with a beguiling manner and seductive disguises?
Rossini’s exhilarating music and some hilarious comedy moments make for a saucy romp where the characters discover that getting what you want is not always the same as wanting what you get.
The Barber of Seville is at 7.30pm and tickets cost £18-£22. Call the theatre on 01684 892277.
