Sample the Magic of Motown
11:00am Thursday 26th April 2012 in Music By Neil Watts
THERE’LL be dancing in the streets when the sounds of one of the world’s favourite record labels are recreate in a sparkling stage show.
Coming from the States, The Magic of Motown will take audiences young and old to Detroit during Tamla Motown’s heyday via a non-stop musical extravaganza at Malvern Theatres on Friday, May 18 from 7.30pm.
What’s more, this year’s run marks 50 years of number one hits and comes fresh from sell-out performances in London’s O2.
There won’t be a shortage of hits, with 36 chart-toppers coming from the likes of the Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson, Jackson 5, Mary Wells, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Lionel Richie and many more.
The array of classic hits revived by a talented live band for the night includes Get Ready, Stop in the Name of Love; My Girl; Dancing in the Street; Reach Out I’ll Be There; What Becomes of the Broken Hearted and Ain’t Too Proud To Beg.
As well as capturing Detroit’s original sound, there will be 16 dazzling costume changes and tightly choreographed dance routines to complete a fine spectacle.
Male lead Andre Lejaune says the cast spent the end of 2011 rehearsing and perfecting an all-new show to mark the golden anniversary.
“With many new numbers added to our already hit-packed show we needed to ensure the choreography was right on point. The show is called The Magic of Motown for a reason, it’s our job to ensure theatregoers have a truly magical night to remember.”
