Mad about the boy half her age Hollywood screen goddess Norma Desmond of the silent era lives in a dream world in her mansion on Sunset Boulevard. Once the greatest star of all - now deluded, hires a young impoverished scriptwriter to help stage her comeback at 50 years of age.
Larger than life Desmond is played brilliantly by Ria Jones who owned the stage delivering a faultless performance who fully deserved the standing ovation at the end.
Her love interest Joe Gillis is talented actor Dougie Carter whose singing and acting is impressive.
Her butler and ex-husband Max Von Meyerling (Adam Pearce) with his gruff voice and Molly Lynch as Betty Schaefer - who is so in love with Joe (who could not resist temptation proved to be his downfall) both produced great performances.
The set and the visual effects are stunning, complimented by the wonderful score perfectly executed by musical director Adrian Kirk's orchestra.
Sunset Boulevard is musical theatre about love, romance and tradegy, if like me you are not familar with the show don't miss it.
Runs until Saturday, 13th January at the Bristol Hippodrome.
