IMAGINE a really dreadful play. And I mean bad. Badly cast, appallingly acted, packed with forgotton lines, bad timing, missing props. So bad in fact that although it's a murder mystery it's hilarious and every mistake makes the audience laugh. That was the whole point of The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery, a play performed by the West Malvern Amateur Dramatic Society last week.
It was a fun play and very entertaining and I'm sure the whole audience, like me, thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the obvious rivallry between some of the characters, the five pages of plot simply missed out, the forgotton props and the recipes and household tips incorporated into the script. I liked the loud,mis-timed sound effects and corpses that crawled off the stage themselves and I particularly liked the last minute plot change and hastily handed out script re-writes read with bemusement by the confused cast. The cast were clearly enjoying themselves in their roles as Townswomen's Guild members and I liked Lisa Westmacott as Pawn the Butler and Helen Barker as Doreen Bishop.
The play was a great choice for an amateur production and all credit to the cast for playing characters with limited acting skills and making the audience laugh. It all worked really well.
