Daniel Radcliffe is often asked why he has picked such “weird” movie roles since his time on the massively successful Harry Potter films.

The 26-year-old actor found fame as the boy wizard in the hit movie franchise based on JK Rowling’s books.

But since the last film wrapped, he has chosen a diverse range of roles, rather than sticking with blockbusters or safe bets at the box office.

He told NME in a new interview: “People do ask me, ‘Why do you choose such weird movies?’ but I don’t think they’re weird, they’re just stories I’m interested in.

“Isn’t having weird tastes good, though? I think so. I think that’s better than always wanting to play the handsome hero.”

Daniel’s adult roles have included legendary American poet Allen Ginsberg in Kill Your Darlings and Igor in the classic horror tale remake Victor Frankenstein.

But even though he has graduated from the world of Harry Potter, the actor confessed he still keeps an eye on what is happening, and is especially interested in the new West End stage production Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.

“It’s weird,” he said. “But I’m happy for it to go on without me. I’ve no ownership of it.

“Now that I know [Harry's in it] I actually really want to see it. It would be a mental thing to try and see it with lots of very excited Harry Potter fans. But I kind of would like to know what happens now.”

Daniel has also been watching with interest news of the Potter prequel film Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander.

And he admitted he is already jealous about one thing – Eddie’s costume.

He joked during his chat with NME: “Oh f*** you, Eddie, in your brilliant costume… I got jeans and a zip top for 10 years and you’ve got a greatcoat already?”
