AN amateur dramatics group will turn to a different genre for their next production.

The latest offering from Malvern Wells Players will be something of a two-for-one affair, with the presentation of two one act plays under the banner of Russian Revelations.

Moving away from the comic detective thrillers of the last couple of years, the first play is a translation by Elizavetta Fen of Anton Chekov's The Proposal.

Making fun of romance and marriage, the comedy explores the process of getting married and satirises upper-middle class and courtship.

It points out the struggle to balance the economic necessities of marriage and what the characters themselves actually want, taking in studied politeness and furious arguments.

I Spy by John Waterhouse follows after the interval in the form of a radio play set in a studio of the Wells Broadcasting Company giving its first broadcast in front of an invited audience.

Based on mistaken identity it centres on the belief that one of the characters in a KGB operative who has been undercover for years and is about to be activated in order to kill someone.

The secret isn’t revealed until the very last line of the play.

The productions run from Thursday to Saturday, February 21-23 in Malvern Wells Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm.

Tickets are £5 and available from Daniels Garage, The Village Post Office and The Wells Club.
