WHEN it comes to staging musicals, the Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society is getting used to winning ways.

For the fourth consecutive year, WODS has been nominated by the local Region of the National Operatic a Dramatic Association (NODA) for a Best Musical Award.

WODS’ sell out production of South Pacific staged at the Swan Theatre in October last year, has been nominated for the prestigious award and members will be attending the award ceremony at Stourbridge Town Hall on Sunday April 23 to find out the result.

Directed by Sarah Gilhooly, this was her first production at the Swan Theatre, and she was "thrilled" that the show had been nominated.

Spokesman for WODS, Bruce Wyatt, said: "Unfortunately not everyone will be able to attend the awards ceremony because this clashes with our rehearsal with the orchestra lined up for the opening of WODS 125th anniversary production of “HMS Pinafore & Other Infernal Nonsense” on April 25.

"The show will not only be a celebration of its very first show in 1892, but will also include a variety of other nautical songs and dances from recent hit shows, including ‘Anything Goes’, all backed by an on stage 20 piece orchestra."

WODS was awarded the top prize in each of the three previous years, with its productions of Sunset Boulevard, Mack & Mabel, and Anything Goes, all staged at the Swan Theatre.

Tickets for HMS Pinafore and Other Infernal Nonsense are available from the Box office on 01905 611427 or via ticket @wods.co.uk
