THE wiles of the wayward Mrs Robinson are set to shock and entertain a local audience at Malvern Theatres.

A new production of The Graduate, starring Catherine McCormack as Mrs Robinson and Jack Monaghan as Benjamin is coming to the venue, following a run at West Yorkshire Playhouse and Leicester Curve.

A spokesman said: "Based on the Charles Webb’s novel, The Graduate sees an educated young man swept into an illicit encounter with an older married woman, setting them both on a thrillingly destructive course.

"Catherine McCormack takes on the iconic role of Mrs Robinson, a role made famous by Anne Bancroft, in the film version, which was released 50 years ago. She has worked extensively in film, television and theatre and is perhaps best known for her starring roles in the multiple Academy Award-winning film Braveheart with Mel Gibson, and Spy Game with Brad Pitt, as well as receiving an Olivier Award nomination for her role in All My Sons at the National Theatre, alongside Julie Walters.

"Jack Monaghan stars as Benjamin, who was the lead role in the record-breaking West End production of War Horse, as well as featuring in Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror and Richard Curtis’ film About Time. "

Director Lucy Bailey said: “The Graduate is a satire on the values and life style of middle class suburban America. The world seen through Benjamin’s eyes is a heightened surreal version of reality, at times grotesque and absurd. It’s a coming of age play - painfully funny and deeply human."

The Graduate will be appearing at Malvern Theatres from Tuesday June 13 to Saturday June 17.
