THE Courtyard, Herefordshire’s Centre for the Arts, is looking forward to the New Year as it prepares to kick off its new 2010 season.
All the way from Perth, Western Australia, the Midnite Youth Theatre Company bring to Hereford the Aussie musical In the Shadow of a Gum Tree from January 13-14. One of Australias foremost youth theatres, Midnite’s latest show is a story of love, betrayal, murder and mayhem in a small outback town.
The Day of the Dead, the new show from The Circus of Horrors, on January 19 is an amazing collection of the world’s most bizarre, daring and grotesque circus acts. Over 16s only and strictly not for the faint-hearted.
Poet Roger McGough joins the London Mozart Players for The Carnival of the Animals on January 24. He reads a selection of his animal poems while the orchestra plays the music that inspired them.
Other classical music treats include the accoustic foursome Red Priest (January 28), Bobby Chen piano (March 18), and for those who like a bit of comedy with their music Pluck - The Titanic Show (February 26), a seriously silly tribute to the musicians who played on till the end.
The Foresight Theatre Company bring credit crunch comedy from Feruary 11-13 with a play about a band on the edge of fiscal failure and other theatre offerings include a stage version of the classic movie Alfie (February 4), Lotty’s War (February 23) and the chilling The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde (April 24).
The Courtyard’s regular Comedy Club has the saucy Julian Clary (February 3) and Richard Herring with his show Hitler Moustache(February 22).
For younger members of the family there is a 90 minute stage version of the famous TV show Postman Pat, entitled A Very Royal Mission (April 2).
Other shows include Hereford theatre company 4Play’s exciting drama Number (January 20-23), Hereford’s comedy musicians The Hat Band (January 22-23) playing to raise money for St Michael’s Hospice and Hereford Amateur Pantomime Society with a new twist on the traditional tale of Cinderella (February 16-20).
