COLWALL v MALVERN.

MALVERN captain Anthony Arnold says his side will be out for revenge against Lye tomorrow after they suffered a devastating opening day defeat against Colwall.

The visitors were all out for just 46 after 25 overs and it took Colwall just 12 overs to reach their modest target.

Swing bowling from Darren Cooke and spin from Charlie Griffiths destroyed Malvern's frail batting attack.

Colwall's Wolfendale and Pann-iers made it look easy in the second innings, wrapping up the convincing victory in division two of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.

Only Malvern's Rob Francis came away with any credit from his team's poor batting display, top scoring with 19 runs.

Now Arnold is hoping his side bounce back as they host Lye at Regency Road in league action.

He blamed a lack of match practice for the defeat after their opening game the previous weekend had been cancelled.

Arnold said: "It was just a lack of practice out there on the square for us. Colwall had had a practice match before and it showed.

"It should be rectified this week. Colwall should not have ripped through us like they did for just 46 runs, not with the ability that people keep telling us we have.

"The guys need to prove something to me and to themselves this weekend.

"We need to show that this is what we can do and we need to prove it was a blip. We need to write off last week's match and make sure it doesn't happen again.

"Hopefully in a month's time we can exact a little bit of revenge against Colwall."

Malvern 1st XI, home to Lye, (1.30pm): Adam Dovery, Mark Baugh, Luke Halion, Rob Francis, Ollie Bendll, Steve Carter, Anthony Arnold (captain), Hugh Diamond, Andy Cullen, Phil Heritage.
