Hotel customers left owners with £400 bill
11:30am Sunday 28th October 2012 in News
A HOTEL owner has spoken out after customers ran up a £400 bill then left without paying.
Steve Hughes, who runs the Castle Lodge at Wilton near Ross-on- Wye with his partner Georgina, said the customers, who spent three nights at the hotel at the start of October, booked through an online agent.
They gave credit card details as security, but when it came to settling their bill on October 4 claimed they needed to transfer money from another bank account.
They did not return.
Steve, who has reported the incident to police, said: “I don’t know anyone in the industry who can afford to write off £400 in this climate.”
It is believed that the same couple also booked to stay at the Chasedale Hotel in Ross, but cancelled on the day they were due to arrive.Staff there tried to charge the £75 late cancellation fee using the credit card details given online, but the payment was not authorised.
