Aircraft crashed near Ross-on-Wye after pilot clipped hedge
4:40pm Thursday 25th October 2012 in News
A PILOT who crashed a small aircraft into a field near Ross-on-Wye struck a hedge while abandoning a landing.
The Air Accident Investigation Branch report into an accident at Eastbach on July 27 has found that the pilot attempted to take off again because he didn’t think he would stop before a hedge at the end of the runway.
But having hit the top of the hedge, the 1972 Piper Cherokee crashed in the next field and burst into flames, destroying the aircraft.
The 51-year-old pilot kicked the windscreen out and helped his female passenger escape before getting himself out. Both of them suffered minor injuries.
The AAIB report was released this week.
