A HEREFORDSHIRE man who lives on the east coast of the USA has spoken about the devastation caused by Hurricane Sandy.
Lawrence Hurley, who grew up in Hoarwithy, where his parents Jon and Heather still live, is in Silver Spring, Maryland.
“It’s been raining nonstop since Sunday night and the wind really picked up, but unlike other recent storms, we never lost power, which made a big difference,” said Lawrence, who went to John Kyrle High School.
“Myself, my wife Amanda and my six-year-old son did sleep on the ground floor for safety reasons, although in the end it never seemed like any trees were going to fall in our immediate vicinity.
“Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday and so were offices in DC.
“In our area, various trees are down, some people have lost power and there’s lots of flooding, but it looks like New Jersey and New York had it a lot worse than we did on this occasion.”
So far, at least 48 people have been killed across the US from the aftermath of Sandy and millions left stranded.
