A THRIVING brass band in Ledbury is celebrating its second anniversary – and has a jam-packed programme of events to see out 2012.

Ledbury Community Brass Band, which now has more than 20 keen members, was founded with the aim of strengthening the community and unearthing new talent.

Now it has lined up its busiest ever programme, and has a series of engagements lined up between now and Christmas to spread the word about its talent.

The events for this year will conclude with a performance at the Ledbury Civic Carol Service in Ledbury Parish Church, on Sunday, December 16, from 6.30pm.

Band spokesman Kevin Jeffery, of the Deer Park estate, said: “We have players who started from scratch and more experienced players, and we all get on together.

“There’s a really nice, friendly atmosphere.

“The music is coming along nicely, but that is secondary to having a nice time and doing things for the community.”

The band, which is always open to new members, meets at Ledbury Primary School every Thursday evening from 7.15pm.

It welcomes people of all ages and abilities, with the aim of spreading knowledge about brass band music, and teaching people new skills.

Other engagements include playing at the turning on of Ledbury’s Christmas lights, on the afternoon of Saturday November 24, and the band’s own annual concert, at Castlemorton Church on December 6.

Tickets for that event, priced at £7.50, are available from Ledbury Books and Maps in the High Street.

Members will also be performing for the residents of the Stanley House care home near Bosbury on December 9 and at St Michael’s Hospice on December 12.
