POLICE are appealing to the public for information as they investigate the death of a pedestrian on the M5 motorway yesterday afternoon.

The collision happened between junctions 10 (Cheltenham) and 9 (Tewkesbury) on the northbound carriageway at around 5.55pm when a heavy goods vehicle collided with the pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man believed to be in his late 40’s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lanes one and two of the carriageway were closed for around four hours whilst the emergency services worked at the scene.

Closures to lane three were kept to a minimum in order to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. The southbound carriageway remained open.

No indication has yet been given as to when the dead man will be named or why he was on the motorway.

Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to officers are asked to call Gloucestershire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 361 of January 8.
