Adults and youngsters look forward to a brighter future at the Tudorville centre
THE committee behind a community centre that it helped bring back to life says it cannot wait to set the wheels in motion after receiving a cheque for £10,000 from the Hereford Times’ parent company.
We reported last month that Tudorville and District Community Centre (TDCC) was successful in obtaining the grant from the Gannett Foundation.
TDCC took over the lease of the former youth centre from Herefordshire Council in January 2011 after it was deemed surplus to requirements – the first community asset transfer to take place in the county.
The committee has since undertaken a lot of work to make the building a more user-friendly centre.
Thanks to its efforts, it now has a new floor, heating and car park.
In August last year, Herefordshire Council leased the adjoining play area to the TDCC, but with more children now using it, a number of parents told the committee that it was not well equipped.
The Gannett Foundation money will go towards funding more sporting and recreational equipment.
