Forces grants up for grabs
11:40am Friday 11th January 2013 in News
COMMUNITY groups and voluntary organisations in Herefordshire can apply for grants of up to £250,000 for local projects that strengthen relations between the armed forces and the wider community.
The Armed Forces Community Covenant was established in 2012 by Herefordshire Council as part of a government initiative to promote greater understanding between the general public and the military.
The grant scheme, funded by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) will consider applications for projects that benefit both the forces and the civilian community, and promote closer ties.
Councillor Peter SinclairKnipe said: “This is a great opportunity for community groups to access funding for initiatives that strengthen relationships between themselves and the armed forces.
“In Herefordshire, we have identified seven key themes as a focus for partnership working: education, employment; health and well-being; housing; recognition, understanding and communication; community; and leisure and culture.”
The grant scheme considers applications for funding between £100 and £250,000.
Details of the process can be found on the Herefordshire Council website. The deadline is 5pm on January 31.
