Hereford homeless shelter's donation appeal

A SHELTER that gives overnight accommodation to the homeless needs donations to help continue its work.

St Peter’s Winter Shelter in Hereford city centre, which supplies overnight accommodation for up to 16 homeless men, has a shortfall of £8,000 to £10,000.

The shelter seeks to help men who are sleeping rough and is run by St Peter’s Church, using the hall known as the Church House.

The men can enter the accommodation at 9pm when hot drinks are available and they can have tea or coffee before they leave by 8am.

Andy Butterfill, shelter joint co-ordinator, said one of the conditions for the men staying is that they work to solve their accommodation problems.

“It's very difficult for people sleeping rough,” he said.

“They will perhaps find a bit of secluded land somewhere and after a few days they will move on.”

Anyone wishing to donate to the shelter can do so by sending cheques to the Parish Office, 24 St James Road, Hereford HR1 2QS. They should be made payable to “St Peter’s and St James (Shelter)”.
