Residents to be consulted over Malvern youth centre development
RESIDENTS living near the Malvern Cube - formerly the youth centre - will be consulted about plans to build four homes on part of the site.
Worcestershire County Council last year leased the Cube and part of the surrounding land to Malvern Youth and Community Trust.
The council kept part of the land back for housing development had has been holding discussions with Malvern Hills District Council, the planning authority. Now the county council plans to put in a planning application for four family homes on the land.
County councillor David Thain said: "The council has a responsibility to make best use of its assets, particularly with the current tough economic climate. The proposed residential development site will provide us with a valuable capital receipt, which can be used to fund other projects.
"We are working hard to achieve the right balance by retaining a valuable community resource in the Malvern Cube while seeking permission for a small and carefully considered development. We are liaising closely with local residents and other stakeholders to ensure they remain informed and involved in the pre-planning process."
Planning consultants Drivers Jonas Deloitte will be carrying out the consultation on behalf of the County Council and have posted letters to neighbours explaining the proposals.
