Church to turn up the heat

CHURCH ON THE MOVE: All Saints’ vicar Paul Finch at Malvern Wells Village Hall, the church’s temporary home while its heating is upgraded.
A MALVERN church is relocating to the village hall for five weeks while work takes place to upgrade its heating systems.
All Saints Church, in Malvern Wells, closed its doors this week ahead as work got started on the project, which is costing £38,000.
The work is taking place because the church gets particularly chilly in the winter, but All Saints’ vicar Paul Finch did not want congregation members being left out in the cold while the doors are closed.
He arranged for services to take place in the meantime at Malvern Wells Village Hall, a short distance along the A449 Wells Road.
“The church is going to be out of service for five weeks and we thought it would be good to go back into the village itself,” he said.
Rev Finch added that the upgraded heating system, which is being paid for solely by donations from the congregation, would make a big difference to the church.
“The heaters in the church at the moment have got past their sell-by date,” he said.
“It has been a bit chilly for the past few winters and when it has been really cold sometimes there has been no heating at all.
“This will give us a much improved system that is better both for the fabric of the church and the people who use it.”
He added: “The congregation have been extremely generous with their donations.”
