Bollard could be placed on path

A MOVEABLE bollard is being proposed for a narrow footpath in Ledbury after two vehicles became trapped.

Vehicles have had to be towed back out of the link between Dog Hill Wood and Bank Crescent after sat-nav errors.

The first incident took place last summer, when an elderly lady put her faith in her sat-nav system and found herself driving down the narrow country path.

The second incident, which was discussed at Ledbury Town Council’s environment and leisure committee in the Market House, took place on Saturday, November 24, and involved a Severn Trent van.

Ledbury town clerk Karen Mitchell said: “It was halfway down and had got stuck and needed to be pulled out.”

Mrs Mitchell said that the path could not be closed off entirely to vehicles because access was required for hedge cutting.

Coun Martin Eager expressed fears that the bollard could actually cause an accident were someone to drive into it at night.

But Coun Clive Jupp, in response, said: “Get a bollard that does the most damage to any car that goes into it.”

And committee chairman Rob Yeoman, said that if damage is caused to a bollard, “get the person who does it to pay for it”.

Members of the committee agreed in principle to install a lockable, removable yellow bollard.

The decision needs to be approved by a meeting of the full council.
