Whitbourne Primary School could close later this year

ANOTHER Herefordshire school could close its doors later this year.

The future of Whitbourne Church of England Primary School is currently being discussed as the number of children attending has dropped to 25.

Herefordshire Council, the Diocesan Board of Education and school governors are working with staff and parents to explore possible ways of keeping the school running.

In a statement, Herefordshire Council said: “Schools with small rolls face considerable challenges not least budgetary ones.

“Possibilities include working in collaboration with another or other schools. Alternatively there may be a community group that wishes to pursue a free school option.”

A meeting to discuss the next steps for the school was due to take place in the village last night (Wednesday) and a decision is expected to be announced in March.
