Dog walker suffers head injury following Ledbury collision

A DOG walker suffered a head injury and broken leg after being in collision with a car in Ledbury yesterday.

The woman, thought to be in her 50s, was walking two dogs along the B4214 Bromyard Road just after 5pm.

An off duty paramedic was quickly on the scene before the patient was taken to the Major Trauma Centre at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“On arrival, crews found a woman estimated to be in her 50s who was suffering from a potentially serious head injury and a broken leg,” said a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman.

“Initially, the woman was semi-conscious but as ambulance staff worked on the patient, she started to come round.

“The man driving the car was uninjured.”

Ambulance staff asked for a vet to be sent to the scene as they were worried one of the dogs was injured.

Who decided that it was better to say "in collision with a car" rather than "hit/knocked down by a car"?

I get tired of hearing about vulnerable road users being in collision with cars and lorries - gives the impression that the vulnerable road user should not be going around colliding with the truck or car.

I wish the lady well and her dogs and wish that HT might call it for what it appears to be.

Well said, Wysiati. Great reporting; not.
Trust the lady and dogs a speedy recovery from their ordeal.

I was just thinking that exact thing. The word collision gives a sense of twisted metal and devastation, as if the woman was crushed between two vehicles.

Whilst technically correct I guess, I also feel "hit by" would be more appropriate.
