A HARPER Adams University student from Herefordshire has been awarded a prestigious scholarship.

Twenty-two-year-old William Skittery from Little Marcle is studying for an MEng in agricultural engineering and was awarded the Douglas Bomford Trust Scholarship.

The scholarship is offered to all second year BEng/ MEng/BSc or first year FdSc engineering students studying at the Shropshire-based university and covers payments for eachofthe academic years of their course valued upto £1,000.

Mr Skittery said: “The support enables me to purchase all the materials I need to really have a good go at doing the best I possibly can in my agricultural engineering master’s degree.”

Anthony Burgess, chairman of the Development Trust, said: “This is the seventh year of awards.

“In 2006/07 we made 21 awards of £17,000. This year we made 99 awards of £225,000. I thank our sponsors, our professional team and the academics who give their time voluntarily. Finally, well done and congratulations to our students.”
