Local musician's chance to perform in famous recording studio
11:43am Thursday 7th March 2013 in News By Bill Tanner
ONE of the county’s most promising music talents had time in one of the world’s best known recording studios to show what he can do.
And this Sunday the results of that session go live.
Abbey Road Studios and Absolute Radio staged an event this week in a new series which provides a platform for emerging artists hand-picked to perform.
George Barnett, from Bircher, played to a select and intimate audience available to watch on demand at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.
All-rounder George sings, drums, and plays piano, guitar, bass, trumpet and harmonica to material he writes, produces and records himself. He came to attention in 2008 as UK Young Drummer Of The Year and last March saw him release his first full length release ‘17 Days’.
George makes his own Youtube videos too. Recent single Lone Rose drew world-wide attention with over 100,000 hits in its first week. He plays with his band George Barnett and The Ninth Wave.
Absolute Radio Head of Music James Curran said the session showed what “great promise” George Barnett offered as an artist.
“The series offers a once-in-a-career opportunity for artists to perform for a national radio station and means we can support those who have the potential to be major recording artists of the future,” said James.
Highlights of the George Barnett session will be broadcast on Geoff Lloyd’s Unknown Pleasures this Sunday, (March 10) from 8pm. Both sessions will also be filmed and available to watch on-demand at www.absoluteradio.co.uk.
