A CONSTRUCTION firm has been hailed as one of the most thoughtful in the country after picking up two awards for its consideration towards local people and the environment.

Malvern-based building contractor Speller Metcalfe is celebrating receiving Considerate Constructors Scheme awards for its work on Ledbury’s historic Master’s House and a multi-million pound redevelopment at Bromsgrove School.

Staff working on the Ledbury restoration have sponsored a local football team, taken part in the town’s annual carnival, built a pergola for local charity Salter’s Hill and kept residents up to date with frequent blogs and open days.

The team in Bromsgrove were involved in a sunflower growing competition that raised £1,400 for forces charity Help for Heroes, rebuilt a garden for a local community centre and helped students design a garden that went on to be a winner at the prestigious Malvern Spring Garden Show.

Steve Speller, Speller Metcalfe’s managing director, said: “These will be the fourth and fifth Considerate Constructors Scheme awards we have won.

“This is a fantastic achievement when we’re competing with major contractors across the UK.

“It goes to show that no matter how small or big you are, you can make a positive difference to your local community.”

The awards ceremony takes place in April, when Speller Metcalfe will find out if it has won bronze, silver or gold in its categories.
