A COUNTY woman has been named in the top 100 fund-raisers of the past year for Birmingham Children’s Hospital (BCH).

Pip Bullock, 31, from Credenhill, raised about £15,000 for BCH by running the Birmingham Half Marathon with best friends Lizzie Davidson and Emma Reddock.

The trio ran after the hospital cared for Pip’s nephew, Ted Rogers, who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in April 2012.

The money went towards the £4million Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal, which will renovate the hospital’s Oncology ward as well as the cancer day care centre.

Pip, who was recently awarded a gold star in recognition of her fundraising efforts, called the hospital’s current provision outdated.

“When Ted’s mother and I first went to the ward we couldn’t believe it – there was nowhere parents could go to be alone to deal with the news that their child has cancer, and it just wasn’t suitable for young children,” she said.

“The renovations will make the area more child-friendly.

“The ward and centre will be welcoming with things for the children to play with.”

Ted, who lives with parents Lyndsay and Thomas in Monkland, is now in phase three of his treatment which is keeping the disease at bay.

Louise McCathie, head of fund-raising at BCH, said: “Pippa has seen firsthand the expertise and care that we have already given to Ted, so she knows all too well how much of a difference the money from our appeal will make to patients like him.”
