ALL change at Presteigne Post Office as plans to move in with a high street convenience store will see a huge boost in opening hours, if plans clear a public consultation.

The proposal would see the creation of a ‘Post Office local’ at 41 High Street, just 100m from the current location, opening from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week – 56 hours a week more than the existing timetable.

The Post Office is launching a six-week consultation period closing on April 29 – inviting residents to give their thoughts and feedback on the move – with the new service looking to open in June.

Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales, Tony Jones, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Presteigne,” said Post Office Regional Network Manager for Wales, Tony Jones.

“We are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”

Around half of the 6000 Post Offices nationwide are converting to these new-style branches as part of a three-year investment, committed to preventing any branches from closure.

Presteigne residents can get excited about a “modern open plan local style” branch according to Mr Jones – and will still be able to carry out a “wide range of Post Office services”.

‘Post Office local’ branches work by delivering services from the same counter as normal retail transactions during the shop’s opening hours.

Those services include cash withdrawal services from partner banks and Post Office card account, access to Post Office Financial and Travel services as well as mail services.
