Ancient drain is a hazard

AN ancient storm drain in a churchyard is to be permanently railed off as a potential hazard.

Contractors have looked at the five-foot storm drain in the Closed Cemetery for Ledbury Town Council, and they have recommended it should have railings on its three accessible sides, a lockable gate should be installed for maintenance and sturdy mesh should be placed over the top of the drain.

The drain, thought to be hundreds of years old, is around five feet deep but it only came to light recently.

Until then, it had been hidden by brambles, close to the churchyard walls and the rear ofthe police station.

The cost of the work is still to be made public.
