Footballer Wayne Rooney makes dream come true for Presteigne fan

Oliver Latham meets Wayne Rooney.
THE dreams of a teenage boy came true when he met his favourite soccer star.
Oliver Latham, from Presteigne, was diagnosed with severe cerebral palsy at birth, and although he can’t play the sport, he’s a fervent football fan.
So it came as no surprise that the 13-year-old was extremely excited to be given the chance to visit Old Trafford and meet the Manchester United team, including Wayne Rooney.
The visit was arranged by charity Starlight, which grants once-in-a-lifetime wishes for seriously and terminally ill children.
Oliver and his parents Eric and Kelly, and little brother Bailey, also got the chance to watch the team train.
Kelly said: “Oliver is still buzzing from the day. All the money in the world couldn’t buy a day like that – it was absolutely fantastic.
“As a mum, it was amazing to see Oliver’s face. He was just so happy. It really was a one in a million opportunity.”
Oliver has regular physio and hydrotherapy to assist his mobility but may require hip reconstruction surgery in the future.
Along with the other children who attended the Manchester United Dream Day, Oliver also received a shirt signed by the team and a goodie bag.

I hope he enjoys many more games in the future.

I would hope it makes the players reflect on just how lucky they are to not only play football for a living, but to become rich.
Fair play to them though. You don't often hear about the community work they do.
