THE Prince and Princess of this weekend’s Bromyard Gala have been crowned in a special ceremony.

Danielle Brunsdon and Mark Oliver are the head girl and head boy at the town’s Queen Elizabeth Humanities College and the chairman of the gala, Liz Huffer, carried out the crowning procedure in front of their fellow pupils.

The couple will ride through the town centre and the main arena in a grand inaugural parade tomorrow (Saturday) before carrying out further ceremonial duties throughout the weekend.

This is the event’s 44th year and it is also the last on the present site at Birchyfields just outside the town, with organisers seeking a new venue for the future.

Thousands are expected at the good-old-time country show with attractions ranging from prize winning Hereford Cattle to the annual egg-throwing contest, while there is a funfair, steam engines, vintage vehicles and a programme of events in the main arena.

Attractions include sheepracing and equestrian displays as well as historic cars and motorbikes, horsedrawn vehicles and a parade of steam traction engines.

Last year it fell foul to the extremely wet summer when it was cancelled at the last minute because of the waterlogged ground conditions.

Television presenter Christine Bleakley will be at the Gala on the Sunday to record for her new ITV show, Country Road.

The gala takes place tomorrow and Sunday.
