HUNDREDS turned out in Bromyard to cast their eyes over plans for a new supermarket in the town.

Tesco went public with its proposals at the Conquest Theatre on Friday.

More than 300 people turned up to see how the store could fit on Tenbury Road, complete with a 105- space car park.

Tesco’s corporate affairs manager Simon Petar claimed there was “great enthusiasm” for the store, which will create 80 full and part-time jobs in the area.

He said: “We were delighted that so many people took the opportunity to visit the exhibition, talk to our team and pledge their support.

“We will now use the feedback to shape the finer details of our planning application to Herefordshire Council, which we will submit during the autumn.”

Tesco claimed that 87 per cent of visitors to the consultation event were in favour of the new store.

However, some did raise their concerns on the potential impact for the town.

Ros Bissell, owner of Moors Meadow Gardens and Nursery, said: “I’m just worried for Bromyard.

“Although on the face of it people think they are getting cheaper food and more jobs, I don’t think they are as there will be jobs lost in Bromyard as a consequence.”
