Waitrose supports music fest
5:00pm Tuesday 13th August 2013 in News
THE Great Malvern branch of Waitrose has presented £1,750 in support of a local music festival.
The money will fund two concerts and an educational outreach project at the Autumn in Malvern Festival, being held later this year.
The money has been donated through the John Lewis Partnership Music Matters Scheme, which invites branches to nominate a local musical activity for a significant one-off contribution.
The donation will fund a concert by the Royal College of Music Orchestra, from London, and an Aldwyn Voices concert.
Autumn in Malvern takes place in October each year and includes classical music, literature and visual arts. Entry for the concerts is free for young people, to encourage an interest in classical music.
Waitrose Great Malvern branch manager Scott Whittaker said: “The Autumn in Malvern festival is a fantastic event for all of the community to enjoy so it is great that Waitrose are able to support it through Music Matters.
“I am sure the event will be a great success.”
Festival artistic director, Peter Smith, said: “I am delighted and grateful for this generous support from Waitrose. The festival should always be part of the community, working for it and with it.
“I believe music in particular, above all the arts, is life-sustaining.”
