Secrets of the family kitchen
A NEW collection of mouthwatering main courses and delicious desserts has been published in aid of a Malvern charity.
Thymes Remembered has been compiled by the Friends of Community Action Malvern and District, with members submitting their favourite family recipes.
And proceeds from the book’s sale will help fund the work of Community Action, which provides transport and other services for the elderly, housebound and disabled in the Malvern area.
Susie Forbes, the chairman of the friends, said: “Our editor, Malli Wadge, has carefully collected recipes that have been tucked away in family kitchens for many years, making a very interesting and individual collection.”
Among the delights within its pages are recipes for chicken and mushroom au gratin, prawn surprise and asparagus soup.
The book features a foreword by renowned actress Maureen Lipman, a frequent visitor to Malvern Theatres.
She writes: “I love the idea of your organisation, because it fits into my belief that the memory must be treasured and stimulated by means of trips down Memory Lane and reminders of good times and places which bring back the best of times.”
She has also contributed her own recipe for chicken soup to the book, which is illustrated by Gloucestershire artist Camilla Bliss.
The cook is being supported by the Café in the Green, Barnards Green Road, which will be selling dishes of the month made from the book's recipes.
The book, priced at £8.50, is available from the café, Malvern Book Co-op in St Ann’s Road and other retail outlets. It can also be ordered from communityaction.
