A NEW 18-30s club has been hailed a success after helping to set jobseekers on the right road to employment.
The group – called the 18-30 Job Club – will help Worcester and Malvern residents in the age bracket who are looking for employment, and to gain valuable skills.
It is hosted by three of the area’s largest landlords – Festival Housing, based in Malvern, Evesham’s Rooftop Housing and Worcester Community Housing.
It was launched during an event at Worcester Warriors’ Sixways stadium featuring Hayley Taylor from Channel 4’s Fairy Jobmother TV series.
Ten Worcestershire companies looking to recruit new staff also attended along with lots of of jobseekers.
Festival Housing director Clare Huyton said: “This is the latest in a number of Festival Housing initiatives aimed at helping residents into work, with many people finding interviews, jobs, training and work experience as a result of our on-going efforts.
“The Jobs Club event included workshops on a wide number of themes, such as preparing CVs and applications, staying motivated, searching for jobs and interview skills. Potential employers were also on hand to answer questions and Hayley Taylor proved to be an inspiration.
“Hopefully, there will be some really positive outcomes from the event.”
Festival tenant Kim Edwards is 21 and lives in a Festival Housing scheme in Worcester. She was one of the people who attended.
She is carrying out voluntary work and studying for an NVQ in childcare but has had so far had no success in finding a job.
“I have handed out my CV to several companies and feel more positive after being at the jobs event,” she said.
