Meetings will discuss plans for 45 homes
POWICK residents are being urged to show up in force to a meeting next week to protest against a controversial planning application.
Bovis Homes has applied to build 45 houses on land next to the Crown pub, close to the A449 Worcester-Malvern road.
But residents are outraged that access to the development will be through their estate, via Russell Close, a residential cul de sac.
Sarah Beard, who lives in Russell Close, said: “We are absolutely disgusted that this application has been made.
“We’ve heard that it will take two years for the estate to be built, and that will mean two years of lorries and dumper trucks bringing mud and mayhem to our quiet residential roads,” she said.
“What about our children?
“They will be exposed to terrible danger with all the traffic.
“Where will they be able to go to ride their bikes?” The plan will be discussed when Malvern Hills District Council’s northern area development management committee meets on Tuesday at the Bank House Hotel in Bransford, starting at 6pm.
Bovis submitted its application back in January, and last month it lodged an appeal against the district council on the grounds that it did not make a decision in the statutory 13-week period.
The appeal will take the form of a public hearing later this year.
Tuesday’s meeting will not decide the application, but has been called so the committee can indicate what its decision would have been.
The recommendation is for refusal.
County and district councillor for Powick Tom Wells said: “From what I understand, we are doing this so the council’s view can be brought in evidence at the appeal.”
“People are unhappy that the highways department has not objected more strongly.
“Quite apart from the heavy traffic while the building work is going on, when the houses are occupied it will mean 300-odd more vehicle movements a day through Russell Close.”
Coun Wells has organised a meeting for residents at Powick Parish Hall tonight (Friday) at 7pm.
