ELGAR fans, local residents and visitors can find out more about the great composer, by taking part in a guided walk over the Bank Holiday weekend.
In The Footsteps of Edward Elgar, led by Peter Smith, artistic director of the Autumn in Malvern Festival, will visit locations around the town associated with Elgar.
He lived in Malvern between June 1891 and July 1904 and wrote some of his most famous works here, including the Enigma Variations and The Dream of Gerontius.
The walk will take in some of Elgar’s most inspired places, including his home Craeg Lea.
It is supported by Malvern Hills District Council. Coun Phil Grove said: “We are looking at new ways of highlighting the beautiful scenery and history of the Malverns.
“By putting on a variety of events, including historic walks like this, we hope to showcase the legacy of greats like Elgar and encourage more people to return to the Malverns time and time again.”
The Autumn in Malvern Festival, which this year starts on Saturday, September 21, is a longrunning event which showcases classical music, arts and poetry.
In the Footsteps of Edward Elgar is on Saturday, August 24, from 10am to 3.30pm.
Tickets, which cost £12, including a sandwich lunch and a drink, are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Church Street, or by calling 01684 892289.
