Blooming great day out at show
A DISPLAY OF COLOUR: Show organiser, Helen Picton, arranging some of the flowers on stage at the village hall.
RESIDENTS of Colwall and the surrounding area showed what their green fingers can achieve at the weekend.
The village hall played host to the annual show of the Wyche and Colwall Horticultural Society – the 70th of its kind.
And the anniversary show proved to be a success, with colourful displays of flowers, fruits and vegetables.
Joan Wright of the society said: “It was a really nice afternoon, with lovely displays, and the ice-creams and the tea and cakes were very popular.
Show treasurer David Taft said: “The show made a small surplus, which is nice, but what makes it a success is the number of people who exhibit, and the number of visitors we have, and in this respect we do very well indeed.” He said the show had about 200 paying visitors through the door – exhibitors showing five or more items get in free – and there were some 350 exhibits.
“The cold spring that we had meant that a few of the flowers and veg were a little behind, but most of them managed to catch up during the recent warm spell.”
