MONTHS of nervous waiting ended in another goldrush for Ledbury as it once again came up trumps at the Heart of England in Bloom awards.
Yesterday’s presentation ceremony at Drayton Manor Hotel, Tamworth, saw the Ledbury in Bloom team scoop a gold award for its fantastic floral displays.
Delighted Ledbury in Bloom secretary June McQuaid hailed the result as “fantastic” and said it was something for the whole town to be very proud of.
“We’re absolutely over the moon. You always hope that you will do well but you never quite know until the day of the announcement, which is always a very nervous wait,” she said. “All our volunteers work so hard to keep the town looking its best and this is credit to their dedication. They deserve everything that they get and Ledbury can be very proud of them.”
The latest gold award is Ledbury’s seventh in a row and Mrs McQuaid said the In Bloom team was planning a special celebration tonight to toast the occasion and thank volunteers for their efforts.
The Bromyard in Bloom team is celebrating a silvergilt award while Malvern and Upton-upon-Severn both scooped gold.
Upton was the overall winner in the large village category while Malvern’s displays impressed the judges enough to see the town invited to enter next year’s national Britain in Bloom competition.
The Heart of England in Bloom campaign is organised by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) and encourages communities to work together to improve and enhance their local environment.
Heart of England in Bloom chairman Mike Garwood said: “Everyone is proud to be involved with In Bloom, which is one of the largest horticultural campaigns in Europe, and even more so when they receive their prestigious awards.”
